Dreams

Back in 2020, I wrote about my thoughts on Jobs vs a Career:

A job is different from a career. A job to me is a contract where you do some work or offer services in order to get paid money in return.

[...]

A career on the other hand is something more long term. It is something you build over time. I think of it as a series of jobs (or roles within the same job) in a particular domain of work that interests you.

I continue to feel the same way. For my career in software engineering, I would like to do many different dream jobs. This is an infinite game I'd like to play.

For this pursuit, I maintain a list of organizations I would like to contribute to someday. I include organizations on my list if I resonate with some aspect of them. They may be engaged in important social impact work, have an excellent work culture, or feature people I would like to work with.

Running list of my dream orgs:

  1. Fueled done!
  2. Kagi: happily here currently ^_^
  3. Share The Meal: impactful work, strong engineering culture, want to work with my bud Arun
  4. Linear: love the product, impeccable design
  5. Zerodha: want to work with CTO Kailash, strong engineering culture, want to build something for India
  6. Fold: India needs better designed finance apps and these folks are doing it, want to build something for India
  7. Buffer: not VC funded, strong organisational focus on transparency
  8. Raycast: I use the product everyday, super cool team I'd love to be a part of
  9. Railway: lovely product, great work culture
  10. Delhi Houses: love the idea and work, want to volunteer and contribute
  11. Mission Accessibility: important work, want to volunteer and contribute
